Tarangire is famous for its massive elephant herds — some of the largest in Tanzania — and iconic ancient baobab trees that dot the landscape like sentinels. The park is a birdwatcher's paradise with over 550 recorded species. During the dry season, the Tarangire River becomes a lifeline, drawing enormous concentrations of wildlife from the surrounding areas.
